Hausa/Yoruba clash: Don't travel to southwest for now, Arewa youths begs northerners

- Arewa youths have expressed concerns about constant attacks allegedly against northerners especially in Shasha community

- This was made known by the Northern Youths Council of Nigeria in reaction to the recent clash in Ibadan, Oyo state

- The group in a statement appealed to northerners to desist from travelling to the southwest for the time being

The recent clash between Yorubas and Hausas in Shasha Community in Akinyele local government area of Ibadan, Oyo state has generated reactions across the country, with many condemning the fracas.

In light of the attack, northerners have been urged not to make any trips to the southwest for now.

The appeal was made by the Northern Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN) who expressed concerns following the alleged constant attacks against northerners, The Nation reports.

The group in a statement from its spokesman, Mock Kure, strongly condemned the attack and called on security agents to arrest the perpetrators.

Arewa youths went on to allege that the hidden agenda to expel northerners in the southwest region started with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu's call for herdsmen to leave Ondo state Forests Reserves.

The youths appealed to the federal government to declare Sunday Igboho’s group a terrorist organisation claiming that he is not different from Boko Haram.

Makinde shuts Shasha market

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Seyi Makinde ordered the immediate and indefinite closure of the Shasha market in Ibadan.

The Oyo state governor took the action following the skirmishes in the market which degenerated into a violent clash between the Yoruba and Hausa residents in the community.

The governor equally imposed a curfew on Shasha and the market area, running from 6 pm to 7 am.

Investigate Shasha fracas, OPC says

In a related development, the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Makinde to investigate the incident in Shasha community.

The group made this known in a statement at the weekend, by its publicity secretary, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, and sighted by Legit.ng.

According to the OPC publicity scribe, an investigation needs to be carried out so as to bring the culprits to book and also forestall further crisis.
