Jakande: Photos show emotional moments OBJ, Gbajabiamila, Osinbajo, Sanwo-Olu visit late Awoist's house

Tributes have continued to pour in for late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the first civilian governor of Lagos state who passed away at the age of 91 after years of service to humanity through good governance and journalism.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos was on Sunday, February 14, at the residence of late elder statesman to commiserate with his wife Abimbola Jakande, his children and other family members.

Sanwo-Olu, who led other members of the government, extolled the legacies and character of the late former minister of works, Awoist (follower of Obafemi Awolowo) and veteran journalist.

"Baba's landmark achievements as governor of this state in education, health, housing, urban renewal and infrastructure will remain touchstones for generations to come.
"We can only learn from his worthy example and commit ourselves to dutifully serving our people," Governor Sanwo-Olu said in a post on Twitter.

In the same vein, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila was also at the residence of the late former governor to pay a condolence visit to his widow.

Prominent personalities who were also at late Jakande's house on a condolence visit include former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Dolapo.

"I was at the residence of elder statesman and former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande to condole the family. I pray God to forgive him his sins and grant him eternal rest. Also present was the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo," Gbajabiamila wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that with enviable political legacies and life well-channelled towards productive governance, Chief Jakande gave up the ghost in what many experts will describe as the end of an era.
