Viral video lands police officers in trouble over molesting of comedian Mr Macaroni, other arrested Lekki protesters

The Lagos state Police Command has announced that it will carry out an investigation into a viral video showing some officers molesting comedian Mr Macaroni and other protesters arrested at Lekki on Saturday, February 13.

Premium Times reports that this bit of information was disclosed by the Command's spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a press statement on Sunday, February 14.

The Command frowned at the behaviour of the officers, which it described as unprofessional.

Legit.ng recalls that a video went viral on Saturday showing a bare-chested Mr Macaroni sandwiched in a bus with other equally bare-chested protesters after their arrest at Lekki Tollgate.

Some men suspected to be the police officers now under probe harangued the detained protesters and demanding they should seat in a way, say or do some embarrassing things.

The actions of the officers angered the Lagos state police commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, who has demanded a thorough investigation.

Adejobi said in a statement:

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, who was piqued by this unprofessional and inhuman act, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State CID, Panti, DCP Adegoke Fayoade, to analyse the video and bring to book whoever that must have been responsible for the act.”

Legit.ng reported how Mr Macaroni was arrested along with other protesters while marching against plans to reopen the Lekki Tollgate on Saturday.

After initially being thought to have been released, Mr Macaroni was charged by the police and arraigned before a mobile court the same day.

He was later granted bail late in the night and has since been released.
