Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been named the Premier League manager of the month for January.

The Spanish born tactician has now won the prestigious eighth time after guiding the Citizens to victories in all nine games they played.

And this is the first time any club would achieve such a feat in the history of English football in a calendar month.

The Etihad Stadium outfit kicked off the first month of the year with a 3-1 win over Chelsea and for the remainder of the same month, they refused to leak any goal.

They defeated Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion 4-0 and 5-0 respectively to maintain their winning status in January.

  • October: Nuno Espirito Santo (WOL)
  • November: Jose Mourinho (TOT)
  • December: Dean Smith (AVL)
  • January: Pep Guardiola (MCI)

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager is now on the same level with the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Martin O'Neill and Harry Redknapp in terms of the award.

Meanwhile, Guardiola beat his former assistant Mikel Arteta, David Moyes and Graham Potter to win the prize for the eighth time since he moved to England in 2016.

With the rate at which the Citizens are going, the Spaniard might win another award soon as they are yet to lose any game since the start of the new year.

However, City are looking like favourites to win the Premier League titles this campaign having already opened a five-point gap over second-place Man United with one game in hand.

The defending champions Liverpool needed 10 points to catch up with the table-toppers as the race continues to wind down.

Legit.ng earlier reported that there are celebrations at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City star Ilkay Gindogan has been presented with the Premier League Player of the Month of January award.

The German international who has stepped up his game has been impressive since the turn of the new calendar year, contributing immensely to the Citizen’s sizzling form so far.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won their last ten consecutive Premier League matches to go five points clear atop of the English topflight.
