ACF writes CBN, cries out over alleged financial exclusion of northern states

- ACF is not happy that the northern region has been excluded from key aspects of Nigeria’s financial life

- The forum, speaking through its chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, noted that states in the north are underserved

Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has decried what it calls the exclusion of northern states from critical aspects of the nation’s financial life.

The mouthpiece of northern Nigeria made its stance known in a letter dated January 29, 2021, and written to the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, The Nation reports.

In the letter signed by ACF chairman Chief Audu Ogbeh, the forum stated that the north despite being the most populous region in the country is “unserved and underserved.”

Ogbeh, Nigeria's former minister of agriculture, stressed that the government’s policy of financial inclusion targeted at the grassroots may not succeed in the north.

The ACF chairman went on to express fear that the situation may compound the negative effects of the second wave of COVID-19 on the region if not addressed.

He explained that the microfinance banks are not properly positioned to serve the majority of the people all over the country.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) announced its plan to empower four million Nigerian youths through a N25 billion employment programme.

This was disclosed by the president of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, at a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.

Dangote also announced the plan by CACOVID to rebuild the police stations that were destroyed during the violence which trailed the #EndSARS protest.
