After issuing quit notice to illegal herders who graze their cattle in Ondo forest reserves, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has signed a bill that approves the establishment of ranches in the state.

Governor Akeredolu approved the bill during an executive council meeting on Thursday, February 11.

The decision of the government was made known by the state's commissioner for justice and attorney-general, Charles Titiloye, The Nation reports.

Also, the commissioner said one of the objectives of the bill is to implement the governor's earlier directive to cattle rearers who roam the state's forest reserves without official approval.

Meanwhile, Akeredolu had revealed that foreign herders were perpetrating crimes in the state's forest reserves.

The governor noted that most of the foreign herders almost remained permanent in the state government’s forest reserves before he gave an order to flush them out.

Legit.ng gathered that the governor spoke during a courtesy visit to his office by Dora Amahian, the zonal coordinator, Zone ‘F’ of the Nigeria Immigration Service, comprising Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti states.

He tasked the officers of the NIS to heighten security at the land borders, adding that the rate at which foreigners were coming into the country through the land borders was alarming.
