Arsenal legend Ian Wright has lashed out at former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho for humiliating Luke Shaw during his reign in charge of the club.

The 57-year-old admitted that the defender struggled when he joined the Red Devils in a £30 million deal from Southampton in 2014. The move made him the most expensive teenager then.

But Mourinho mostly singled him out several times for public scrutiny over his shortcomings back then.

Wright was a pundit for the BBC at Old Trafford when United managed to oust West Ham after extra-time in the FA Cup, saying:

“Luke Shaw when he came to United from Southampton was a fantastic player, but he fell away a bit.
"He had injuries and lost form, but he has turned it around. He is fitter, stronger and is showing what he is capable of. Some of the treatment he got from Jose Mourinho was degrading - I didn't like to see it.”

Shaw's introduction gave Man United a direction against the Hammers having started the game from the bench.

However, BBC had a moment with the Englishman before the game and he admitted that it was 'very hard' under Mourinho as reported by SunSport.

“I always believed in myself. There were times where maybe people were thinking ‘maybe he could leave’, but I always believed that one day I would be able to fight my way back into the team and show people what my qualities are.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho once said about Shaw before a game against Swansea:

“Luke Shaw told me this morning that he was not in the condition to play so we had to build a defensive line.
“There is a difference between the brave, who want to be there at any cost, and the ones for whom a little pain can make a difference.”

The former Real Madrid and Chelsea handler has so many remarks negatively describing the defender but he has been able to use them as his springboard to his stability and fitness level.

Legit.ng earlier reported that 17 years ago, Jose Mourinho made a brutal assessment of Arsenal under Arsene Wenger following their 5-4 win over Tottenham in a tough Premier League game.

Mourinho then took a dig at the Frenchman claiming that the result of his wards was embarrassing despite getting the three maximum points after Spurs.

The former Real Madrid was not pleased with the result of the encounter claiming that Arsenal should not have allowed Spurs to net four goals against them.
