Jose Mourinho's dig at Arsenal in 2004 comes back to hurt him at Spurs

Seventeen years ago, Jose Mourinho made a brutal assessment on Arsenal's team under his then biggest rival Arsene Wenger following their 5-4 win over Tottenham in a tough Premier League game.

Jose Mourinho then took a dig at Arsene Wenger claiming that the result of his wards were embarrassing despite getting the three maximum points after Spurs.

Thierry Henry, Lauren, Patrick Vieira, Freddie Ljungberg and Robert Pires were the scorers in 2004 for Arsenal, while Noureddine Naybet, Jermain Defoe, Ledley King and Freddie Kanoute on target for the hosts.

The former Real Madrid was not pleased with the result of the encounter claiming that Arsenal should not have allowed Spurs to net four goals against them.

"Five-four is a hockey score, not a football score.

"In a three-against-three training match, if the score reaches 5-4 I send the players back to the dressing rooms as they are not defending properly.

"So to get a result like that in a game of 11 against 11 is disgraceful."

Interestingly, Jose Mourinho's comment has now come to hurt him on Wednesday night, February 10, when Everton defeated his Spurs' side 5-4 in the FA Cup fifth round tie.

Brazilian star Bernand scored the winner for Everton in the extra time and they have now qualified for the last eight of this season's FA Cup.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Jose Mourinho was listed among the Premier League managers who could be sacked this campaign according to bookmakers Paddy Power.

The 57-year-old tactician recently guided Spurs to a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, however, he is still the third favourite to be relieved of his job at odds 5/1.

A goal each from Harry Kane and Heung-min Son handed the North Londoners the crucial victory over the weekend as they occupy the eighth position with 36 points after 22 rounds of games - four points off the Champions League qualification places.

The triumph stopped Mourinho's men from losing their third consecutive Premier League game after defeats to Brighton and Chelsea in their previous top-flight outings.
