Buhari to honour 110 ex-NYSC members for outstanding community service

- Some former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members will be honoured by President Buhari on Thursday, February 11

- The ex-NYSC members were said to have distinguished themselves while serving the nation in their various places of assignments

- The award is organised by the NYSC and a total of 110 former corp members have been pencilled down to be rewarded

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday, February 11 honour 110 former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who distinguished themselves during the 2018/2019 service year with a presidential award.

The award which is organised by the NYSC will hold at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The award is for distinguished national service in orientation course, primary assignment, community development service; and winding up/passing out.

Part of a statement from the NYSC seen by Legit.ng read:

“This is one of the numerous avenues by which the scheme has been rewarding excellent performance of Corps members.”

In a related development, a group, Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Good Governance and Transparency (CCSGGGT) on Wednesday, January 27, called on President Buhari to honour Nigeria's immediate past service chiefs with meritorious awards.

CCSGGGT said the ex-service chiefs should be honoured for their commitment to end terrorism and other forms of criminality in Nigeria.

A statement signed by the group's conveners, Emmanuel Ogar and Abubakar Gana, and seen by Legit.ng said the chiefs should be given the award of the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON).

The conveners said the service chiefs defended the nation's territorial integrity, fight against external aggression, and maintaining law and order within Nigeria.

CCSGGGT also described the commitment and efforts put in by the service chiefs in their duty as exceptional.

Also, a democratic group has called on the immediate past service chiefs to always make themselves available for consultations by their successors.

The National Democratic Front said the past service chiefs' wealth of experience can be used by their new colleagues in the effort to end the war against terrorism in Nigeria.

A statement signed by NDF's secretary-general, Bolaji Abudlkadir, and seen by Legit.ng applauded the numerous efforts and sacrifices made by the ex-service chiefs.

Abdulkadir said the commitment displayed by the now-retired service chiefs helped in reducing the activities of criminals across various regions of the country.
