Manchester United striker has been slapped with a two-match ban after delivering a dangerous tackle on Everton striker Richarlison during Uruguay's World Cup qualifier against Brazil, Mirror.

The incident occurred last November as Cavani stamped on Richarlison's ankle in the 71st minute in the defeat to the Samba Boys.

Cavani got a straight card red card after the incident and the 33-year-old will not be available for March's CONMEBOL's qualifier against Argentina and Bolivia.

In a post-match interview after the game, Richarlison who scored one of the goals in the 2-0 said the tackle could have caused serious damage but holds no grudge against Cavani.

"I think it was a ball dispute, he went over the top.
"If my foot was stuck it might have even broken my ankle, but I think it wasn’t bad. He tried to steal the ball and ended up missing."

Cavani has proven to be pivotal to United's title chances this season as he has scored six goals and provided two assists this season.

And it will come as a huge relief for the Red Devils fans since the former Paris Saint-Germain striker will not be participating in his country's World Cup qualifier next month.
