Fresh reports from the Etihad Stadium claim Manchester City are still tracking Barcelona captain Lionel Messi and will likely launch another bid for the superstar in March or April, sources told ESPN.

The Argentine’s contract will lapse in June and he has been free to negotiate with clubs since January 1 as his future remains unclear.

Manchester City led the move for the six-time Ballon d’Or in August 2020 after he handed the Catalan club his transfer request, but was forced to reverse his decision after the club cited a clause in his contract.

Although the English club has recently kept a low profile in their bid to snap-up the 33-year-old, French club Paris Saint-Germain have been making a lot of noise about their desire to sign Messi at the end of the season.

It was gathered that City are watching how the situation will pan out, it also looks like PSG have taken a different approach.

"PSG are making a mistake with the strategy they're using," one source said. "Leo doesn't like all that noise in the media and even less the type of comments [which have been made]."

City are hoping to sign the player on a free transfer in the summer as they hope to reunite him with his former boss Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami side has also shown interest in the forward as he currently owns a luxury $5 million apartment in the city.

But Brazilian journalist Thiago Asmar claims the Barca legend has instead set his sights on a potential move to PSG this summer.

Messi is understood to have been in contact with former team-mate Neymar, telling the Brazil international over WhatsApp that he plans to swap Barcelona for Paris at the end of the season.

His intention is now to sign for PSG once his Barca contract expires this summer, although City could turn the tide again by coming in with a big offer.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez produced another fine performance for Atletico Madrid on Monday night, February 8 in their 2-2 home draw with Celta Vigo in the La Liga.

The sensational striker who was axed at Barcelona during the summer continued his blistering start to life at the Wanda Metropolitano to take his goals tally further ahead of Lionel Messi.
