There is a palpable fear among the members of the Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the alleged plan by Governor Seyi Makinde to dump the party for the African Democratic Party (ADC).

Legit.ng reports that the speculation was fuelled on Saturday, February 6, when the governor exited a Whatsapp group where senior officials of the government and some members of the PDP in the state deliberate on cogent issues bordering on governance and politics in the state.

But Makinde was said to have angrily replied him by saying:

"Every time some idiots makes (sic) a video, the government must respond... I don't get it really... you need mature people to make meaningful contributions on your platform."

It was reported that the governor would be joining the ADC as he has been engaging with chieftains of the party like Monsurat Sunmonu, a former speaker in the state to have a smooth defection to ADC.

A PDP chieftain was quoted to have said:

“Yes, you will see, he will soon leave the party. He is going to ADC. I am telling you, he will leave the PDP soon.

Governor Seyi Makinde not leaving PDP, it’s fake news

Reacting to the purported plan by Makinde to leave the PDP, his chief press secretary, Taiwo Adisa, dismissed as fake news the report that the governor is about to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

PM NEWS reports that a chieftain of the PDP in the state had said that the switch is imminent but Adisa denied the claim.

He described the news as “a concocted falsehood from purveyors of fake news, who are bent on maligning the governor at all cost.”

Adisa maintained that contrary to the fake news report, which was published by an online news medium, not Legit.ng, the governor has no plan to join any other party.

He said the governor has remained a strong pillar of the party for many years and is already leading the mission for its resurgence in the southwest.

The CPS stated that the report in question raised all the red flags of fake news, as it was based on unverifiable claims from an unidentified source.

The media aide added that the attempt to launch the concocted story shortly after some media outfits had tried to exaggerate the governor’s exit from a WhatsApp platform that purportedly belongs to the PDP, is negatively ingenious.

He said:

“This is the latest in the rounds of false reports and fake news, weapons which some individuals have employed to wage a needless war against the governor. Makinde at the moment is the leader of the southwest PDP and thus unthinkable that he would jump ship.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that there was fresh anxiety in Oyo state over the state of security after a video surfaced on social media wherein a man claimed some armed herdsmen had sacked some villages.
