Man City star becomes 3rd ever player to achieve huge record under Pep Guardiola after scoring against Liverpool

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling becomes the third ever player to score a century of goals under Pep Guardiola.

The England attacker joined the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero to achieve the feat after scoring against his former team Liverpool in Sunday's crunch Premier League meeting at Anfield.

He benefited from Alisson Becker's second major blunder with a header from the goal line following a superb cross from Bernardo Silva in the 76th minute.

And they went ahead to win the game 3-1 having scored the opener for the home team five years back. Since then he has gone on to become one of the most prolific finishers in Europe.

Aguero reached the figure in August 2019 after scoring a double against Brighton and Hove Albion in a match that 4-0 in favour of City. However, the Argentine only needed his first in the game to reach the 100th goal under Pep.

Daily Mail reports he has since then scored 20 more despite significant spells on the sidelines since last year.

Barcelona legend Messi was the first to reach a century of goals under Guardiola and is in a league of his own after he was turned into arguably the most complete player of all time.

The Messi-Guardiola partnership spanned just four years but saw Barcelona's highest-ever goalscorer net a jaw-dropping 211 goals, including 73 in Guardiola's final season at the club in 2011-12.

Meanwhile, if Sterling wants to emulate Messi's achievement, he needs to stick around at the Etihad for a while.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United fans will not be happy with the predictions of the supercomputer as their club has been tipped to finish fifth on the table at the end of the season.
