Registration: Gunmen kill APC chairman Ahu in Benue

- It seems the ongoing APC registration in some states of Nigeria presents an opportunity for a lot of criminals to strike

- In Benue, the APC chairman, Tersoo Ahu, was killed on Sunday, February 7, by some gunmen who raided the venue for the exercise

Preparations for the All Progressives Congress (APC) membership revalidation exercise in Benue turned violent on Sunday, February 7, after some gunmen raided the party's secretariat in the Gboko South of the state.

The public secretary for the APC in the state, James Orgunga, disclosed that while some selected members were been trained by the party chairman, Tersoo Ahu, and other chieftains, the criminals came with weapons and caused mayhem, The Nation reports.

Orgunga said that during the attack, Ahu was seriously injured and was rushed to a public hospital in the area where he later died while receiving treatment.

As she confirmed the incident, Kate Anene, the police spokesperson in the state, noted that investigations in the development have begun already.

Anene stated:

“Yes I can confirm the attack and killing of the APC ward chairman in Gboko, our men rushed to the scene but the suspects fled. However we have identified them and very soon we shall pick them up.”

Meanwhile, members of the APC were on Wednesday, February 3, thrown into pandemonium as the party's membership registration turned violent in Kwara state.

Violence erupted in Ilorin when members of two factions of the ruling party clashed at the Banquet Hall of Government House.

According to the newspaper, the supporters attacked each other ahead of the registration exercise where a meeting was held to ensure things went smoothly.

Witnesses narrating how the fracas started said supporters of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq prevented Bolarinwa and his followers from entering the meeting amid fears of another parallel registration exercise in the state.
