Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blatantly stated his side are not in the title race after the Red Devils threw away two points in the 3-3 draw against Everton.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin grabbed the late goal as Everton fought from two goals down to claim an unlikely point at Old Trafford.

The draw leaves Manchester United two points adrift off rivals Manchester City, who have two games in hand.

If City win those two games, including a clash against Liverpool on Sunday, February 7, then they will be eight points clear at the top.

Solskjaer addressed his side’s performance after the game where he expressed some disappointment in the manner in which his side conceded the goals.

For the first goal, goalkeeper David De Gea was largely at fault for tamely parrying the ball into the path of Doucoure, who easily tucked home.

"We played some good football in the second half but conceded three goals from three shots on target,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports. When you do that it is disappointing.

"I wouldn't blame anyone on the goals but we know we could have done better as a team on all of them,”

United, who were seconds away from drawing level on points with Manchester City, also could have avoided the late equaliser if Harry Maguire managed to play Toffees players offside and De Gea showed more commitment to get to the ball before Calvert Lewin.

On the question of being title contenders, Solskjaer claimed it was the media who shaped that narrative.

“We are not talking about winning titles,” Solskjaer said.

“We have come a long way, this team.

“We should not even be considered as title chasers. That is more talk that you (the media) are saying.
