The Lagos state judicial panel of enquiry and restitution for victims of SARS related abuses and other matters has returned control of the Lekki toll gate plaza to its owners, the Lekki Concession Company (LCC).

The Nation reports that the decision was taken on Saturday, February 6, during the panel sitting in Lagos.

Legit.ng gathered that the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, told Amnesty International (AI) to show proof of the 12 people reportedly killed during the shooting at the Lekki toll gate or keep “shut up” for life.

It was reported that Amnesty International issued a statement alleging that the Nigerian authorities have resorted to intimidating demonstrators and covering up the incident, instead of ensuring justice for those killed.

The international agency also demanded the suspension of officials indicted in the alleged shooting of #EndSARS protesters at Lekki, Lagos state.

Mohammed also accused AI of double standards in its reaction to issues happening in Nigeria and other countries and cited the example of the Capitol Hill invasion in the United States.

This was as the Lagos state government agreed to pay for the forensic examination of the toll gate to unearth facts that will help finalise investigations into the controversial issue of the alleged massacre of protesters by soldiers on an ill-fated day.

The mission was part of the ruling of the state's judicial panel on restitution for victims of police brutality presided over by Justice Doris Okuwobi during a hearing on Tuesday, January 5.

The verdict followed an application filed by the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) which is bent on ascertaining the extent of damage done at the toll plaza in order to begin reconstruction.
