Luis Suarez narrates how he was disrespected at Barcelona before leaving for Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid star Luis Suarez has recounted how he was maltreated at Spanish club Barcelona before he was forced to leave the Camp Nou side.

The Uruguayan minced no words in saying he was disrespected at the club despite all he did during his time with the Catalans.

Koeman replaced sacked manager Quique Setién was mandated by the club owners to ensure the club’s wage bill was reduced - and some players needed to leave.

Koeman then placed a less than sixty-second phone call to notify Suarez that he is no longer in the plans of the club going forward.

And despite Suarez scoring at least 20 goals for the club in each of his six seasons since he joined the team, the former Liverpool striker had his contract terminated at Barcelona.

Recounting the ordeal, Suarez said via Sky Sports:

"It was tough because of the way I was disrespected, but I wanted my children to see me leave the club with my head held high.

"When the time came to tell my children about the move, it was very difficult. They're older now and sensed there was going to be a change."

The Uruguayan left the Nou Camp in acrimonious circumstances in September as Barcelona's second-highest goal-scorer of all time, having scored 198 goals since signing from Liverpool in 2014.

But now Lionel Messi's future at Barcelona remains uncertain with six months left to the expiration of his current deal this summer.

The Spanish League giants have been looking for a way to persuade the forward to extend his stay at Camp Nou having tried to force a move away from the club last August.

However, that may be impossible now especially after an unknown person splashed the details of his deal with the club on the pages of newspapers in a bid to blame the player for the Catalans' financial struggle.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Cesc Fabregas stated that things were initially not easy for Lionel Messi when he was at Barcelona's youth academy, La Masia.

The former Chelsea star and Messi were colleagues at the popular La Masia football educational system before the Argentine became the club's greatest player.

Fabregas moved to England at an early age as he established himself under legendary Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger before returning to the Camp Nou for a brief spell in 2011.
