Barcelona captain Lionel Messi was handed the man of the match award after he inspired his club to a 5-3 win over Granada in the Copa del Rey quarter-final on Wednesday night, January 3.

Sensational highlights of the encounter have shown the playmaker delivering a masterclass which has been termed his best performance of this season.

The Argentine single-handedly made the game his own as he was involved in all five goals Barcelona scored in the encounter.

He capped his performance with 10 key passes, nine shots on target and made an assist in the 88th minute looping the ball to Antoine Griezmann who scored to make it 2-1.

And fans have reacted to the multiple Ballon d’Or winner’s performance believing he is gradually getting back to his game.

One fan said via SPORTbible: "1 assist but a 15/10 performance. Despite having the goals and assists to his name, never use them to justify Leo's greatness."

Barcelona have progressed to the next stage ot his year's Copa Del Rey championship in one of the most dramatic fashion.

The Catalans were until the 88th minute trailing Granada by two goals courtesy of goals from Kenedy and Roberto Soldado in the 39th and 47th minutes respectively.

Ronald Koeman's men will not give up easily as legendary Lionel Messi set up Antoine Griezmann to reduce the Catalans deficit with about two minutes to the final whistle.

Griezmann netted his second of the game in extra-time before Fede Vico made it 3-3 from the penalty spot.

Frenkie de Jong restored Barca's lead before Alba thumped home a volley to make it 5-3.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that following his brace in the Coppa Italia helping Juventus to defeat Inter Milan 2-1 in the semi-final of the competition, Cristiano Ronaldo is now officially the highest goal scorer in football history.

The superstar who clocks 36 in two days' time grabbed his first from the spot in the 26th minute while his second came as a gift after a communication breakdown between Samir Handanovic and one of his defenders.
