Buhari must consider regional autonomy to tackle security challenges, ex-DSS director Amachree

- Dennis Amachree has called for more efforts from the presidency to tackle the security crisis in Nigeria

- The former DSS boss said restructuring, which accommodates regional autonomy, must also be considered by the government

- Amachree stated that Nigeria is currently in a "tight place" and the government must make a courageous move in the interest of the people

Dennis Amachree has described the federal government's silence on insecurity across the country as unpalatable, with the former State Security Service (SSS) boss saying things are going the wrong way.

Amachree, who served as assistant director of the SSS, made this known on Thursday, February 4, when he appeared on Channels TV.

The former state security agent noted that Nigeria is currently in a "tight place", adding that the presidency must speak up and rise up to the challenges.

Amachree said the country must restructure if there should be a move to the right direction. He similarly suggested that the government must tackle the problem of "proliferation of small arms and light weapons."

He further stated that regional autonomy should be given consideration since people are clamouring for regionalism and restructuring.

“The people are agitating for regionalism, then give the region’s autonomy, that does not mean that we are breaking up Nigeria.
“If the regions have the autonomy then they all can handle their problems where they are. Right now, there are too many pointing of fingers whenever something happens and you can no longer continue to do that.”

Meanwhile, Tunde Bakare, a founder and presiding pastor of Citadel Global Community Church, has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he has disappointed Nigerians with his leadership style.
