The speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said that dialogue is the only solution to the herdsmen crisis ravaging most parts of Nigeria, especially the southwest.

Gbajabiamila stated this in his talk with State House correspondents after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, February 3, Punch reports.

The speaker noted that to reach an amicable resolution of the issues, both the herdsmen themselves and the host communities must be willing and ready to come to the table for discussion as it is done in all civilised societies.

Going forward, he made it clear that no ethnic group should think they can lord it over the other and the cases of kidnap, killing, and all sorts of crimes that have been associated with the activities of the herders must stop.

Gbajabiamila said these issues will be looked into when the National Assembly resumes plenary on Tuesday, February 9.

He expressed optimism that solutions will come when lawmakers seat and discuss this mind-troubling trend.

His words:

“We should respect each other’s trade, geographical space, history, culture and more importantly the issue of crime, murder all those things should be completely jettisoned.
“From the National Assembly, solutions will come from talking. I believe that now that we are about to start work on Tuesday, I know these issues will come up and adequate and proper legislation that will address the issue frontally and in the best interest of the country, and all nations that make up the nation will be put in place.”
