Lionel Messi's future at Barcelona remains uncertain with six months left to the expiration of his current deal this summer.

The Spanish League giants have been looking for a way to persuade the forward to extend his stay at Camp Nou having tried to force a move away from the club last August.

However, that may be impossible now especially after an unknown person splashed the details of his deal with the club on the pages of newspapers in a bid to blame the player for the Catalans' financial struggle.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner powered home an unstoppable free-kick in the early minutes of the game as they rise to second on the table.

But Spanish news outlet Marca spoke to Marc Menchen, the director, and creator of 2Playbook, as well as Ivan Cabeza, an economist and the founding partner of Laudem Partners about the financial impact of having Messi at Barcelona.

Both experts admit that the Argentine has a huge positive impact on the club with Cabeza claiming that Messi brings into the club between 130 and 200 million euros.

The economist further stated that the 33-year-old's impact must be assessed from three points of view; economic, sporting, and emotional. Cabeza told Marca:

"There are things that we cannot quantify exactly but that shows us the importance of Messi.

"For example, 36 percent of the trophies won by Barcelona have been won with him. Most commercial or sponsorship contracts have a clause that is determined according to this player.

And, on an emotional level, the Barcelona-Messi brand is known all over the world; there are tourists who come to the city to see the player, followers on social media.

"As such, given these parameters, Cabeza is confident that Messi generates more than what he earns, even stating the rough figures.
"Annually he must generate between 130 million [euros], minimum, and 200 million, maximum.
"Therefore, if you take the proportional part of his salary, bonuses and everything for a season, it doesn't exceed the amount he receives."

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are the two top clubs hoping to secure the forward's signature in the summer.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman believes some people are out there with the aim of hurting Lionel Messi and by extension of the club.
