15 people dead in one day as coronavirus ravages Lagos

- More people have died of complication from coronavirus in Lagos on Monday, February 1

- This comes as the country posted the highest COVID-19 deaths in a single day and lowest number of infection since January

- With this, Nigeria has now recorded over 100 fatalities in one week

In what will be shocking news to residents of one of the most populous states in Nigeria, Lagos has posted its highest COVID-19 deaths in a single day.

This occurred on Monday, February 1, with the death of 15 people who lost their lives following complications from the ravaging virus, PM News reports.

The remaining six deaths were accounted for in three states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 676 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

This brings the total number of infected people to 131,918.

So far, 131,918 cases have been confirmed, 106,275 cases have been discharged and 1607 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the FCT.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that as Nigeria continues to battle the second wave of coronavirus, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 said at least 405 Nigerians died from the deadly virus in the last two months.

Boss Mustapha, the PTF chairman, made the disclosure on Monday, February 1, during a sensitisation meeting on COVID-19 vaccine introduction in Abuja.

Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said the fatality rate is 34 percent higher.

Meanwhile, on Friday, January 15, the federal ministry of health released new protocols for religious centres to adhere to.
