COVID-19: Nigerian state bans indoor gathering of over 50 people

In a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus in Lagos state and Nigeria at large, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the ban on gatherings of more than 50 persons across the state.
Legit.ng gathered the southwest governor made the disclosure on Sunday, January 31, during a press briefing.
Sanwo-Olu who stated this while giving an update on coronavirus in Lagos state said the order is in line with the COVID-19 Health Protection Regulations 2021 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the information shared on the Lagos state government's Twitter account, only religious gatherings are exempted from this new directive.
The governor went on to explain that though places of worship are exempted religious gatherings are not to exceed 50% capacity of the space.
Lagos state government makes effort to procure vaccines
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that given the fact that Lagos state has the highest number of coronavirus cases in Nigeria, the governor disclosed that his administration has contacted manufacturers of COVID-19 vaccines.
He disclosed this during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. He said Lagos is planning to vaccinate 50 to 60% of her population.
He also claimed most of the funding for the vaccines will not come from the government. He said part of it will be sourced from the private sector.
Sanwo-Olu tells Lagosians to consider malaria symptoms
In a related development, a new directive has been issued to the people of Lagos state by the governor.
He asked the people to consider any malaria-like symptoms experienced as COVID-19 infection unless and until proven otherwise.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Tuesday, January 19, during a press conference on COVID-19 update.
He said this follows an increase in the number of recorded cases of coronavirus in the country.
