- Marcus Rashford was the target of alleged racial abuse following the Manchester United vs Arsenal cracker
- The United striker said he did not take screenshots because he did not believe it would have been responsible to expose his young fans to the abuse
- He described the abuse as "humanity and social media at its worst"
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has opened up about the racial abuse he received after the game against Arsenal on Saturday, January 30.
He said that the abuse was "humanity and social media at its worst" and refused to take screenshots according to BBC.
Rashford said that it would have been irresponsible of him if he had shared the abuse directed at him because he has many young fans of all colours and he does not believe that they should be exposed to that abuse, according to the SABC.
Manchester United fans were not pleased with his performance on the night and some decided to race as to attack him.
His fans reacted to his post with messages of support and praise:
"So sorry to read this. Please report any racist abuse to the police. You are a shining light in our society. Your thought for the children who follow you here is wonderful. Keep up your amazing work."
"Marcus is one of the most humble footballers I have ever known. He is young fierce and gorgeous and he follows his heart to support ordinary people. Racism makes me boil."
"A true role model Marcus, such a shame we are still in a world where people feel they have to be so vile to make themselves feel better."
"So deserving of all the success you get, long may it continue, a role model for everyone regardless of career choices."
"Absolute class from you, no room for any form of hate in this world. Unfortunately, the biggest threat for humans is fellow humans. I wish we would one day realise how easy it is to LOVE and just be KIND to each other. Well done for using your platform to educate us all ❤"
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Man United on Saturday evening, January 30, suffered a blow in their title charge after they were held to a barren draw by Arsenal at the Emirates.
Both sides had a number of golden goalscoring chances, they were wasteful in the final third as they shared the spoils at the end of the tie.
However, despite the stalemate away from home, the result was enough to help United ink a new club record under the tutelage of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
