Coronavirus: Anxiety as FG records 1,883 new cases of COVID-19, more deaths

- NCDC has announced 1,883 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria

- The COVID-19 deaths have now risen to 1,578

- Lagos state tops the list of the cases with 1040 while it was followed by the FCT which recorded 298

Nigeria has recorded 1,883 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus pandemic as Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory had 1040 and 298 respectively.

Legit.ng reports that the news was broken on Saturday, January 30, by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Anambra state recorded 86 cases while it was followed by Rivers state which had 54.

Taraba and Ogun states recorded 45 and 45 cases as Oyo and Akwa-Ibom states had 40 and 38 respectively.

The NCDC said that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria now 130,557. A total number of 103,712 cases have been discharged while 1,578 deaths have been recorded.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma disclosed that he may order another lockdown in the state if residents refuse to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.

It was reported that Uzodinma made the disclosure in a state broadcast on Friday, January 22, adding that the authorities will begin to arrest and prosecute people who refuse to wear a face mask and observe social distancing.

In a related report, the commissioner for health in Cross River State, Betta Edu, disclosed that 13 corps members who came in for their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme have contracted COVID-19.
