The Nigerian presidency on Friday, January 29, said alleged that there is an orchestrated plot aimed at damaging his reputation President Muhammadu Buhari.

In an article by Femi Adesina, media and publicity adviser to the president on Friday, January 29, it was argued that the campaign, which is to be amplified through the media, is aimed at portraying Buhari as "pandering to ethnic and primordial tendencies."

According to him, the campaign will see the president abused so that Nigerians can have a wrong perception about him backing the atrocities of an ethnic group.

Legit.ng notes that Adesina's defence came amid mounting pressure across the country over the violence and atrocities of Fulani herdsmen which were projected in Oyo and Ondo state following an attack on Seriki Fulani in Igangan town, Oyo state.

The media adviser said the campaign is about the quest for power by people who want to damage the reputation of the president using to the ethnic tension in the country.

Buhari urges Nigerians not to cause religious, ethnic tensions

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Buhari urged Nigerians to refrain from actions that could spark religious and ethnic tensions in the country.

The Nigerian president made the statement on Thursday, January 28, when the leadership of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) paid him a visit in the Presidential Villa.

Buhari said his administration is striving to create an enabling environment for religious freedom as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.
