National ID: Are you registered for NIN? These are the 7 benefits you will enjoy

As Nigerians struggle to get their National Identification Number (NIN) in order to have access to sync their Subscribers Identification Modules (SIMs) with the NIN before the deadline, the federal government has again revealed the reason for the exercise.

Legit.ng reports that the government through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on Thursday, January 28, via its Twitter page, listed seven benefits of having the NIN.

According to the commission, the NIN would allow the government to verify the individual's identity, enable them to access government welfare benefits; open bank accounts and other financial transactions; and register for national examinations.

The NIMC also noted that it would give an individual the opportunity to obtain their enhanced e-passports, drivers licences; enable the government to manage the new and existing Retirement Saving Accounts (RSA) and allow an individual to enhances access to credit.

Here are the seven benefits for having National Identification Number (NIN), according to NIMC:

1. Verifying the identity of an individual

2. Accessing government welfare benefits

3. Opening bank accounts and other financial transactions

4. Registration for national examinations

5. Obtaining your enhanced e-passports, drivers licences etc

6. Management of new and existing Retirement Saving Accounts (RSA)

7. Enhances access to credit

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that ahead of the deadline given to network subscribers to link their SIM cards to their NIN, the NIMC released seven important things to know about the number.

It was reported that the key information about the NIN released by the identity management agency was listed.

In a related report, the federal government commended network subscribers who have successfully linked their SIMs with the NIN for their painstaking efforts and commitment.

The NIMC asked the subscribers who have linked their SIM to dial *346# to retrieve their NIN from the mobile numbers they enrolled with.

The NIMC said via its Twitter page, @nimc_ng, that the SIM can be linked to different telecommunication operators using these codes: MTN: *785#; Airtel: *121*1#; Glo: *109*NIN#; 9Moble: *200*8#.
