Yakubu Aiyegbeni has decided to add more salts to the wound of Nigerians after stating emphatically that he won't tender an apology for the goal he missed against South Korea at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

June 22, 2010, was a bad day for all football fraternities in Nigeria as the former Super Eagles star had a glorious chance to give the West African nation a victory over South Korea in a must-win encounter.

Aiyegbeni had only the goalkeeper of South Korea to beat in the World Cup encounter, but the former Everton man was unable to score which made Nigerians angry.

Since then, references have been made to the miss by Yakubu Aiyegbeni as many Nigerian football lovers are still finding it hard to forget about it.

Although Aiyegbeni and Kalu Uche scored, their goals were unable to give Super Eagles a win as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

According to the latest report on the nation, the 38-year-old explained that he is not owing Nigerians any apology for the miss against South Korea.

“I won’t apologise at all. Why should I? I have scored so many goals for Nigeria too. I have sacrificed a lot for the country. Did anyone apologise to me?
“I cannot apologise because it wasn’t a deliberate miss. I seriously wanted to score. But it wasn’t to be. So many have strikers have missed chances too and nobody will apologise so I won’t.”

Between 2000 and 2012, Yakubu Aiyegbeni played 57 games for the Super Eagles and he scored 21 goals before he retired from international games.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Premier League side West Brom are reportedly considering to sign Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa this month in order for the Nigerian to help their quest of escaping relegation to second tier.

Sam Allardyce and his wards have not been finding it rosy this term in the Premier League and they are currently occupying 19th position on the table with just two wins after 19 games.

Since leaving the Saudi Arabian League last year, Ahmed Musa has been with his family and friends in Jos and he is preparing to join another club.
