Thomas Tuchel was appointed the west Londoners' new boss on Tuesday, January 26, replacing Frank Lampard who was sacked earlier on Monday.

Lampard's axing came on the backdrop of Chelsea's poor run of results especially in the domestic scene that saw them slip to ninth on the standings.

However, despite Tuchel naming a strong side for the Wednesday night, January 27, home meeting, his wards found it difficult to crack Wolves' stubborn defence.

The German tactician drafted the experienced Olivier Giroud in attack, dropping fellow countryman Timo Werner to the bench.

However, the Blues' star-studded attack-line still fired blanks as the meeting ended in a goalless draw.

This was despite the home side dominating proceedings from the blow of the whistle but were unable to make the dominance count.

Be that as it may, the disappointing stalemate saw the Stamford Bridge leapfrog rivals Arsenal to eighth on the standings with a superior goal difference.

The side will take on struggling Burnley in their league match before Tuchel faces his acid test on Thursday, February 4, when his wards battle rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the London derby.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Roman Abramovich who is the owner of Premier League side Chelsea stated clearly that the decision to sack Frank Lampard as the club's manager was a tough one for him.

Frank Lampard has been shown the exit doors at Stamford Bridge after 18 months in charge of the club where he made his name as a big footballer.

The former England international got the chance to become Chelsea coach after Maurizio Sarri left the Blues for a move to Italian champions Juventus.
