Premier League club Chelsea have announced the signing of former Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel who takes over from sacked Frank Lampard.

Tuchel returns to management just over a month after he was sacked by the French giants following poor run of results, despite guiding them to the Champions League final last summer.

He takes over at Stamford Bridge in a bid to return the Blues to winning ways as Chelsea are currently ninth on the Premier League standings.

Tuchel, who has signed an 18-month contract with the possibility of an extension, said via the Chelsea website:

"I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff.
"We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea. At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football. I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family - it feels amazing!"

Despite signing some big players before the start of the ongoing Premier League season, ousted Frank Lampard and his wards failed to impress club chiefs.

New boss Tuchel will be in charge of the Blues when they take on Wolves on Wednesday night, January 26.

He guided PSG to seven major titles during his reign in Paris including twoLigue 1 titles as well as two French Cups.

His team reached the final of the Champions League during the 2019-2020 season where they narrowly lost to Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that England football legend Gary Lineker has taken issue with Chelsea's decision to sack Frank Lampard as manager.

Lampard was shown the door earlier on Monday, January 25, just hours after leading the Blues to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

According to the west London club, the decision to relieve the former midfielder his duties was a difficult one to make, but were left with no choice but to take it after he failed to show "a clear path" out of midtable.

Despite a summer spending spree amounting to more than £200million, Lampard failed to assemble a strong side that can competitively participate in the top-flight.
