Pep Guardiola has said that he hopes he would meet Frank Lampard at a restaurant after the lockdown is over.

The Chelsea manager was shown the door after spending 18 months at Stamford Bridge as the Blues were rooted to ninth position after the first round of matches in the Premier League.

And Man City boss Guardiola has felt sorry for the Englishman, stressing that employers should give coaches enough time to perform.

Guardiola was quoted by Mirror:

“Winning is the name of the game or you’ll be sacked. People talk about projects and ideas, but they don’t exist.
“I respect the decision by Chelsea, but hopefully I can see Frank soon, take him to a restaurant to see him again when lockdown is over."

The Citizens had defeated Chelsea by 3-1 earlier in the month and the Blues are yet to beat a team in the top six of the division.

Under Lampard, Chelsea suffered defeats to Everton, City, Arsenal, Wolves, Leicester City, and Liverpool.

Roman Abramovic then made a rare public statement about the sacking of Lampard and paid tribute to the club's all-time highest goalscorer.

“It's a difficult decision to take, but have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost regard for him."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that a number of Chelsea first-team players have taken time to send Frank Lampard a message of goodwill after his sacking.

Lampard's time as manager at Stamford Bridge came to an end earlier on Monday, January 25, barely 18 months after he was appointed to the role.

A poor run of results especially in the Premier League where the side lost five of their eight matches left the club's hierarchy with no option but to show the legendary midfielder the door.

The disappointing streak saw the west London outfit slip down from top spot to ninth on the standings after just two wins in nine fixtures.
