Roman Abramovich who is the owner of Premier League side Chelsea has stated clearly that the decision to sack Frank Lampard as the club's manager was a tough one for him.

Frank Lampard has been shown the exit doors at Stamford Bridge after 18 months in charge of the club where he made his name as a footballer.

The former England international got the chance to become Chelsea coach after Maurizio Sarri left the Blues for a move to Italian champions Juventus.

And last season, Frank Lampard failed to win any title for Chelsea in all competitions, but his wards finished among the top four on the Premier League table.

According to statement released by Chelsea on their website, Roman Abramovich explained that Frank Lampard will always be part of the club.

“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, the board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future.''

Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently occupying ninth position on the Premier League table with 29 points after 19 games played so far this term.

The Blues will be facing Wolves in their next Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how embattled Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was sacked at the Premier League side due to lackluster performance from his wards this season.

And former Paris Saint-Germain gaffer Thomas Tuchel has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as replacement for the Englishman.

The 47-year-old German was recently thrown out at Paris Saint-Germain and was replaced by former Tottenham manager Pochettino who steered Spurs to Champions League final.

Despite signing some big players before the start of the ongoing Premier League season, Frank Lampard and his wards have not been able to make Chelsea fans happy.

Lampard was appointed on a three-year contract when he replaced Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge in July 2019.

He guided them to fourth place and the FA Cup final in his first season in charge and lost against Arsenal in what was a painful defeat for all Blues fans.
