Ozil's move to Fenerbache suffers setback as president appeals to fans

Fenerbache President Alic Koc has appealed to fans to help fund newly-signed Mesut Ozil's £13million wage packet.

The Turkish giants completed a move for the German midfielder and Koc started a campaign via text messages to fans to support the club in paying Ozil's £67,300-a-week wages.

Ozil's contract at the Emirates was terminated and had to receive a huge price slash in salaries to join Fenerbache in the January window.

Daily Mail quoted Koc's announcement:

"We have a request for our fans. Please continue to support us, we are also dependent on your financial support.

"On the day of the signature, I will ask you to break a record. With an SMS campaign.

"Maybe 300,000, 500,000 or maybe even a million text messages come together. This support will do us very good."

And the president is optimistic that supporters of the club can help cushion the huge £460million in debt incurred.

Ozil was earning a massive £350,000-a-week at Arsenal compared to his new £67,300-a-week wage plan.

The 31-year-old signed a deal that is set to expire until the summer of 2024 as fans retweeted Ozil's post which was retweeted over 105,000 times and received 300,000 likes

Ozil's private jet was tracked from London to Istanbul by over 300,000 Fenerbache faithful as the club are expecting to make a large amount of money through shirt sales.

It is understood Ozil could be wearing the No.11 shirt for the club but the former Real Madrid man hinted he could opt for the No.67 jersey.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that embattled Arsenal player Mesut Ozil has named former Nigerian international Austin Jay Jay Okocha as his idol while growing up.

The German star disclosed this during an interactive Q&A session with his followers on Twitter.

Ozil who was born in Germany to a Turkish family said that his favourite club was Fenerbahce as a young chap, where Super Eagles legend Okocha had spent two years.
