In efforts to stop herdsmen from taking advantage of the forests in some other parts of the southwest, especially now that Governor Akeredolu's quit notice to herdsmen has expired, Amotekun operatives have been placed on standby in some states.

Specifically, Osun and Ekiti states placed their security on standby in anticipation that the herdsmen might want to turn to their states to find food for their cows.

The Nation reports that commanders of Amotekun Corps in Osun and Ekiti insisted that there will be no safe haven for relocating herders in the states.

Gen. Bashir Adewinbi, Osun state corps commander, said they are aware that the herders that were sent packing in Ondo might choose the forests in Osun as their next settlement.

He insisted that Amotekun Corps in the six southwest states were determined to ensure peace and security in the region.

The corps commander said:

“We are working in collaboration with all the Amotekun commands in the Southwest. We are networking and our security intelligence is aware of the quit notice issued to herdsmen in Ondo State. We are doing everything possible to make sure that Osun state forests or any part of the state do not become a place where anybody can come to hide or reside."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Akeredolu showed his determination to rid the state of criminal elements at all cost as he took it to another level with his new directive.

In efforts to safeguard the lives and properties of his people, the governor ordered massive recruitment into the state chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun.

Adetunji Adeleye, commander of the corps in the state, confirmed this.

Also recall that Legit.ng reported that despite the presidency's position on the issue, the Ondo state government is serious about sending all herdsmen out of its forest reserves.

Reacting to the presidency's position that Governor Akeredolu cannot unilaterally oust herders from the state, Jimoh Dojumo, a media aide, said there is ignorance on the part of the leadership concerning the rate of insecurity in Ondo.

In his conversation with journalists on Wednesday, January 20, Dojumo said the ultimatum given to the cattle rearers was the last option by the state when the menace of kidnapping, killing and violent crimes became unbearable.

Legit.ng had reported that the presidency had stepped in to make some clarifications a day after Akeredolu gave an ultimatum to herdsmen in Ondo to vacate the state's forest reserve.
