Tears in Akungba as accident claims lives of many students, AAUA SSANU mourns

- Ondo state is currently mourning the death of students killed in an accident in Akungba

- According to SSANU, there are needs to take measure to stop the frequent accidents in front of the school gate

- The association's secretary, Comrade Ogungbeni, also called on the government to do the needful as soon as possible

The non-teaching staff under the aegis of Senior Staff Association Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Adekunle Ajasin Chapter, has commiserated with the entire university community over the accident which claimed the lives of many students of the institution.

In a statement made available to Legit.ng, Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni, the association's secretary who prayed for the families of those who lost their loved ones called for a permanent solution to the issues of accidents at the institution's gate.

Ogungbeni who also shared his personal experience said he was miraculously saved from being involved in another accident in front of the university gate.

"It is now pertinent for all of us to take proactive actions on recurrence of ghastly accident in front of our University gate and Akungba-Akoko community as a whole.

"On the December 11, 2020, God miraculously delivered me from involvement in the multiple accidents that occurred in front of the University gate, so I can say that the deceased could not have done anything to escape this wanton destruction if not by special grace.
"It is now important that all the Staff Unions in the university should add their voices to this unpalatable happenings, so that, the government can do the needful as soon as possible. We can no longer continue to exhibit fearfulness whenever we are coming to the office any longer.
"In as much as prayer is necessary to avert such calamities, we should also take our actions to the government to find lasting solutions to these evil occurrences.

"Once again, my heart is with the VC, the Management, students, parents and the entire Akungba-Akoko community. May the Almighty God put an end to this evil in our land."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a group of cattle breeders in Nigeria, the Miyetti Allah Kautal, has said no one has the right to evict herdsmen from the forest reserves in Ondo state because all the land in Nigeria belong to Fulani.

Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, the national president of the association told the Sun newspaper in an interview that herders will not obey Akeredolu’s directive mandating them to vacate the forests reserves.

He said the herders do not need anybody’s permission to use a forest for grazing so far as it provides the nutrients needed by their cattle.
