Their previous meeting played at Anfield ended in a goalless draw, with neither side finding the back of the net.

The Sunday encounter has plenty of significance for both sides despite it being only the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The match comes at a time Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eyeing his first silverware with United, with Jürgen Klopp struggling to lay his hands on the evasive trophy.

But despite the tie's importance, Solskjaer is still expected to rest a number of his key players as he eyes a place in the fifth round of the competition.

Dean Henderson is in line to replace David de Gea between the sticks, with Ole potentially retaining his back four of Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Owing to Bruno Fernandes' recent dip in form, Donny van de Beek expected to assume the no.10 role, with Scott McTominay and Fred providing more cover in the midfield.

Paul Pogba's resurgence will undoubtedly earn him a place upfront to feed Edinson Cavani with who is expected to lead the goal hunt.

Marcus Rashford could also make a return to the starting line up having been benched in United's last outing against Fulham.

The Red Devils will shift their attention to Sheffield United after the Liverpool meeting before they take on rivals Arsenal on Saturday, January 30.

Possible Man United starting line up vs Liverpool:

Goalkeeper: Dean Henderson

Defenders: Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, Wan-Bissaka

Midfielders: McTominay, Van de Beek, Pogba, Fred

Forwards: Cavani, Rashford
