President Biden gets Yoruba name after reversing travel ban on Nigeria

A former senator, Dino Melaye, has commended United States president, Joe Biden for reversing a visa restriction placed on Nigeria by the Trump administration.

Legit.ng recalls that Trump had placed a travel ban on 7 countries which were mainly Muslim and African nations over alleged security concerns.

Citizens of seven countries — Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, Venezuela, and North Korea — were barred from obtaining any kind of visas, and largely preventing them from entering the US.

While citizens from six other countries including Nigeria, Eritrea, Sudan, Tanzania, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar, were allowed to visit but were banned from settling permanently in the United States.

However, Biden on his first day in office signed executive orders overturning the ban.

Melaye in his reaction thanked the US president for his gesture via Twitter.

The politician who seemed ecstatic about Biden’s action even went as far as giving the US president a Yoruba name, OluwaBiden.

Meanwhile, President Biden has been criticised for the first signing 17 executive orders on his first day in office.

The Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell, said the US president has headed in "the wrong direction."

According to Fox News, the Republican senator condemned many of the executive orders signed by Biden, including revoking a key permit for the Keystone Pipeline XL and rejoining the Paris climate agreement.

In another news, a former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, has expressed the hope that the Biden administration will lead to a mutually beneficial relationship between the US and Africa.
