Meanwhile, the Ondo government is not backing down from its seven-day vacation order to herdsmen to leave the forest reserves in the state.

According to the state commissioner for information and orientation, Donald Ojogo, in reaction to a statement by the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, the state government is resolute in its directive.

Ojogo also alleged that the statement by Shehu was not endorsed by President Buhari.

In another report, a former Nigerian federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the Ondo state government's decision to oust all unregistered herdsmen in its forests.

In a statement addressing the issue, Sani said he recognised the fact that the state has had to deal with threats of terrorism within its borders from some insurgents.

However, the former senator called on Akeredolu not to punish the multitude of herdsmen for the sins of a few persons who share a similar ethnic background.
