Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have were handed a stunning 1-0 defeat at Anfield by relegation-threatened Burnley on Thursday night, January 21.

The Reds went into the game with the hope of keeping the pressure on Manchester United who are currently on top the Premier League table, but they were unable to get a good result at home.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were stunned just seven minutes from time when Ashley Barnes converted from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Alisson Becker had brought the striker down in the area.

Despite all the pressure, Liverpool failed to get a goal in the encounter which means the club have gone four games without getting a single goal for the first time since 2000.

It is their first Premier League loss after 68 games since losing 1-2 to Crystal Palace in April 2017.

It remains the second-longest unbeaten home run in English top-flight history after Chelsea’s 86 games ending in October 2008.

Liverpool now see themselves six points behind league leaders Manchester United as the Red Devils extended their domestic unbeaten run to 13 games after another resurgent performance saw them turn the game on its head to continue their frightening form on the road.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were back to the Premier League summit barely 24 hours after being displaced by their rivals after coming from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage.
