Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to offload deadwood players before naming his 25-man team for the rest of the season.

Be that as it may, it remains to be seen if Solskjaer will bring in new signings this month to help his side challenge for the title this season.

The Red Devils have already completed one signing in Amad Diallo, who arrived the club this January after his move was delayed in the summer for lack of proper documentation.

The Manchester outfit are still thought to be in the race for more signings, including long-term targets Jadon Sancho, Dayot Upamecano and Erling Haaland.

But even as the club contemplates adding new signings, Solskjaer will need to offload any player considered surplus to requirements.

These are the top seven players who could leave Old Trafford this January:

1. Juan Mata

Mata has emerged as a surprise United player who could be offloaded this month.

The midfielder has entered the final six months of his deal at the club and a move away could be on the cards.

The Spaniard has been limited to just six appearances this season after he fell down the pecking order.

2. Jesse Lingard

With game time hard to come by, Lingard looks set to quit his boyhood club.

The Englishman has not had a taste of Premier League football this season, being limited to just two cup matches.

A number of Premier League clubs including Spurs and Leeds are thought to be interested in his services.

3. Marcos Rojo

For a very long time now Marcos Rojo has been linked with a move away after he fell out of favour under Solskjaer.

A move to his home country of Argentina has been mooted.

4. Sergio Romero

Romero has been relegated to fourth choice at Old Trafford, falling behind David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Lee Grant.

However, he will not be short of options, with MLS side Inter Miami understood to be monitoring his situation at Old Trafford.

5. Phil Jones

Jones' time at Man United appears to be drawing near after he lost his place to skipper Harry Maguire.

A stubborn knee injury has not eased things for the Englishman, leaving him sidelined for the better part of the ongoing season.

6. Brandon Williams

The rising star is technically third in the pecking order in his preferred position in the left-back.

The resurgence of Luke Shaw has seen Solskjaer overlook Williams, with the summer arrival of Alex Telles further compromising his place in the United team.

However, a loan move for the rest of the season looks like the likeliest option.

7. Dan James

Despite his promising start to life at Old Trafford, James has struggled for form in recent months.

His position upfront has further been complicated by the availability of options in the department.

A loan move for the Scottish has been mooted.

The Red Devils extended their domestic unbeaten run to 13 games after another resurgent performance saw them turn the game on its head to continue their frightening form on the road.

Prior to the match, some pressure was on the Red Devils after their neighbours Manchester City went top of the table after a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
