Cristiano Ronaldo was on target as Juventus claim their first title in the New Year following their 2-0 triumph over Napoli in their Italian Super Cup clash earlier this week.

The 35-year-old broke the deadlock for the Old Lady in the 64th minute before Alvaro Morata sealed the victory in the extra minutes.

He has however won his fourth title since he joined the Turin-based club from Real Madrid after the 2018 World Cup.

But their chance of holding on to the Serie A title at the end of this season is looking bleak as they currently trail log leaders AC Milan by 10 points but have one match in hand, Goal reports.

Andrea Pirlo's men have won the title for the last nine season, however, their chances are slim as they sit fifth on the table at the moment. After their Super Cup glory, Ronaldo told Rai Sport that:

“We are very happy with the win, it was difficult, especially as the pitch was terrible, but we got it done.
“We showed a different attitude to the bad performance against Inter. That is the past, this is a very important trophy and we hope this can give the team more confidence going into the future.”
“Milan and Inter are very strong, but I believe we have what it takes to win. It’s going to be very difficult, but I believe the Scudetto is still possible.”

The former Manchester United has now scored 21 goals across competitions for Juve - taking his tally for club and country to 760.

Juventus will now shift their focus to their next league game against Bologna on Sunday as they look to gain ground on the clubs above them in the Serie A race.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed delight having won the 2021 Italian Super Cup title with Juventus following their 1-0 win over Napoli in the final.

The striker opened the scoring in the 64th minute after the ball found its way to him off a corner kick, with the superstar side-footing the ball into the net from close range.

Alvaro Morata then scored in stoppage-time to ensure the Old Lady win the title in style and Ronaldo who has now scored 760 career goals is delighted with the victory.
