Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted Juan Mata could be on his way out of Man United after six years at the club.

The midfielder has been deprived of game time under Solskjaer, with the Spaniard being limited to just six appearances this season and this could lead to his exit this month.

Mata, who has just six months left on his current deal with United has increasingly been pushed to the fringes - often making only the bench.

Reports reveal the Red Devils have an option of extending the 32-year-old's deal by a further year, but all signs point at an unlikely extension before the summer.

Solskjaer has now moved to admit former Spain international could be headed for a more turbulent spell, suggesting his place has essentially been usurped by other players. Mirror UK quoted Ole saying.

"The decision is very difficult every time with Juan. You know he's got the quality. If he plays, he scores goals, he's contributed this season.
"So it's one of those that I have discussions with all the time, it's difficult to leave him out but unfortunately that's where it is at the moment, so no decision has been made there yet."

The players include Paul Pogba and youngster Mason Greenwood, both who seem to have filled Mata's preferred position on the right-wing.

Whereas there is still plenty of time for United to activate Mata's one-year extension, it is believed the idea does not augur well with the player.

Mata joined the Old Trafford dwellers during the January window of 2014 from rivals Chelsea under then-manager David Moyes. He has since won a number of titles with the club, including the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Man United are bracing themselves for a busy January transfer window with just days left before the transfer is shut.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to offload deadwood players before naming his 25-man team for the rest of the season.

Be that as it may, it remains to be seen if Solskjaer will bring in new signings this month to help his side challenge for the title this season.
