- One of the university's security staff was also arrested for allegedly aiding the kidnappers' activities

- Another suspect who was allegedly providing spiritual support for the kidnappers was also arrested

The Nigerian Police Force has arrested suspected kidnappers who have been terrorising Ahmadu Bello University, a report by Daily Trust states.

Legit.ng gathers that the suspects were arrested by the Special Tactical Squad of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

Aliyu Abubakar, one of the workers of the institution working in the security department, was also arrested for allegedly providing assistance to the kidnappers.

Police spokesperson, Frank Mba, told newsmen that a suspect, Malam Jafaru, who reportedly provides spiritual guidance to the kidnappers was also arrested.

The arrest comes in the wake of a spate of kidnappings that have hit the university campus and its environs, with staff and students taken for ransom.

Legit.ng recalls that some armed men kidnapped some Nigerian French Language students of ABU along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Sunday, November 15, 2020.

One of the students among those in the bus who succeeded in escaping said the kidnappers had reached out to the families of the kidnapped students, demanding N30 million ransom on each.

In another instance, some bandits suspected to be kidnappers also invaded the staff quarters of the institution in Zaria and abducted a staff, his wife and daughter.

Legit.ng gathered that the university’s director of public affairs, Malam Auwalu Umar, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, November 23, 2020.

Umar said security operatives engaged the kidnappers in exchange for fire. He, however, said the wife and daughter of the staff were released when the security chased the kidnappers into the bush.
