Nigerian governor allegedly gives vehicles to bandits as he denies allegation

- A Nigerian governor has been accused of aiding bandits in his state

- The bandits are reported to have used the vehicles the governor donated to them to attack some villages

- Also, the criminals were accused of killing some soldiers though the report of this was made not made public

In what will shock many Nigerians, a governor has been accused of helping bandits.

The allegation was levelled against Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state by a former chairman of Maradun local government.

According to him, the governor is supplying vehicles to bandits.

He alleged that Matawalle gave the bandits Hilux vehicles which they used to kill 10 people in Janbako community, Punch reports.'

He said:

“They went to that village in two of the Hilux vehicles given to them by the Zamfara state government. One of the vehicles broke down and was abandoned by the bandits.

“These bandits have been using the vehicles to kidnap, kill and rap* innocent people and the press has been silent,."

Going further, he also claimed that the criminals also took the lives of three soldiers, including a major.

The Punch Newspaper also reports that Matawalle denies dolling out vehicles to bandits.

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that Matawalle reacted to the purported allegation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he is the one sponsoring armed bandits.

APC's deputy spokesperson, Yekini Nabena, claimed in a statement on Thursday, December 17, that a Nigerian governor from a northwest state is behind the attacks by bandits in the region.

He claimed that intelligence reports had linked the governor to the heightened cases of banditry, kidnappings, and other violent crimes.

Legit.ng also reported that noted that the Zamfara state governor played a crucial role in the recent rescue of the over 300 schoolboys kidnapped in Katsina state.

In an earlier report, Governor Matawalle revealed how he facilitated the release of the 344 schoolboys of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara without payment of ransom.

He said he used repentant bandits and the leadership of Miyetti Allah to identify the syndicate that led the abduction, and then started the negotiation process.

In another development, at least, three operatives of the Nigerian Army have been killed by a landmine planted by the dreaded insurgent group Boko Haram.

According to credible media reports, the soldiers were killed along Maiduguri/Gomboru Ngala road on Monday, December 28, when the convoy of three battalions of Nigeria Army ran into the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
