Presidency reveals number of Nigerians who have received N5000 relief fund
- Yemi Osinbajo said thousands of Nigerian household have so far benefited from the N5000 monthly relief fund
- The vice president also expressed assurance in the current government's effort to eradicate poverty
- Osinbajo said the federal government has budgeted N10 billion to be directly paid into the hands of about 2 million poor and vulnerable people monthly

Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president, said about 3,115 Nigerian households have received alerts of N5,000 as part of the federal government's Economic Sustainability Plan, the Cash Transfer Scheme (ESPCTS).
Osinbajo made this disclosure in a series of tweets on Wednesday, January 20, while giving updates on the plans of the federal government to reduce poverty through the National Social Protection Policy (NSPP).
The VP said since the NSPP project was launched in 2017, the government has "identified and registered about 24.3 million poor and vulnerable individuals into the National Social Register; equivalent to about 5.7 million households."

He further emphasised that the government is willing to explore the population of the country with a view to "capturing and registering the urban poor and vulnerable populations across Nigeria."
Osinbajo said the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is currently injecting about "N10 billion directly into the hands of about 2 million" poor and vulnerable people every month.
"About 3,115 households received alerts of payments instantly at the flag-off of the project. A total of 1 million households will be impacted directly under the scheme over the next 6 months. Each household already identified will receive N5000 cash transfer from January to June."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central, humorously mocked the federal government's N5,000 package for 24 million poor Nigerians.
In a tweet on Tuesday, January 19, the outspoken former lawmaker and critic stated that with the relief package, the federal government has formalised its membership of the Stingy Men Association of Nigeria (SMAN).
SMAN, a revolt association, was established by popular Nigerian record producer and music entrepreneur Michael Collins Ajereh better known as Don Jazzy.
