Bayelsa Assembly breaks silence over alleged plan to impeach PDP Governor Diri

A report alleging that there are plans by the Bayelsa state House of Assembly to impeach Governor Douye Diri has been dismissed.

The spokesperson for the House, Tare Porri, told journalists on Tuesday, January 19, that the report is untrue, Vanguard reported.

He said:

“Let me for the umpteenth time on behalf of the leadership of sixth Bayelsa State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt Hon Abraham Ingobere, that the Assembly has never at any point contemplated carrying out an impeachment against our highly esteemed miracle governor of Bayelsa State."

He stated that the unfounded rumour was being spread by people intending to distract the Assembly from carrying out its duties.

The lawmaker insisted that the state legislators are determined to work with the governor to move the state forward.

Meanwhile, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has declared that he and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not leave for the All Progressives Congress (APC) as being speculated.

The Guardian reports that the governor insisted that he would hand over power to a PDP governor in 2023, adding that the party offers what others don't have.

In another report, Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo state and serving senator, has said that he and other progressive minded politicians are muting a new political order ahead of 2023.

The Nation reported that he said this is as a result of the silent agitations and complaints across the country against the current state of the nation.

Legit.ng gathered Okorocha said on Monday, January 18, that it is obvious that people are not satisfied with what is on the ground from their body language.

He told stakeholders not to panic over the rumour, saying that two chieftains of the party did so because he refused to promise them automatic tickets for 2023.
