Man arrested for living in airport for 3 months over fear of COVID-19

- Aditya Singh from Los Angeles, California, was said to have arrived on a flight from LA to O'Hare International Airport back in October 2020

- The 36-year-old was found with a missing ID and was reportedly given food by other passengers

- According to the report, the unemployed man used to live with roommates back in Los Angeles

A man has been identified to have spent the last three months at a secure section of Chicago's international airport because he was afraid of returning home due to fear of COVID-19.

Aditya Singh from Los Angeles, California was said to have arrived on a flight from LA to O'Hare International Airport on October 19, 2020, and was arrested on Saturday, January 16, according to The Guardian.

He was approached by two airline employees and when asked for identification, he allegedly showed the staff an airport ID badge that had been reported missing since October 26.

The employees called 911 and Singh was taken into custody. He was charged with criminal trespass, a felony, theft and a misdemeanour, according to Chicago Tribune

In court, the assistant state attorney Kathleen Hagerty told the judge that Singh was given food by other passengers.

The 36-year-old who has a master's degree in hospitality was reported to have no criminal background but the judge, Susana Ortiz, found the case appalling and that Singh's actions made him a danger to the community.

The unemployed man, who lives with roommates back in LA, was barred from entering the airport. His bail was set at $1,000 (N380,750).
