Fresh crisis hits Ohanaeze Ndigbo as new faction asks court to stop Obiozor from parading as president

The crisis rocking the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has taken a new turn.

A Federal Capital Territory high court sitting in Abuja has been asked by the Uche Okwukwu-led faction of the group to stop Professor George Obiozor from parading himself as the president-general, ThisDay reports.

The former Nigerian Ambassador was on Sunday, January 10, elected president of the group after an election held at Dan Anyim Stadium in Owerri, the Imo state capital.

Legit.ng had reported that the new faction of Ohanaeze emerged with Chief Chidi Ibe and Okwukwu elected as president and vice respectively hours after Obiozor was declared the president-general of the socio-political group in the southeast.

The new Ohanaeze Ndigbo faction in the suit FCT/HC/BIU/M/14/21 is seeking a court order to restrain the former envoy from parading himself pending the determination of the case.

According to the faction of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Obiozor is a product of an illegal election.

They are also seeking a motion to restrain the defendants from holding any further meeting or summoning any without consultation with the secretary-general.

Parties are to return to court on Thursday, January 21, to argue their motion.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Nigeria's number one man, President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, January 11, sent a congratulatory message to Obiozor following his declaration as the new president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
