Lagos announces resumption date for civil servants working from home

- Civil servants in Lagos state will now resume back to office on February 1

- According to the state governor, this will help in curbing the spread of COVID-19

- Emergency workers are, however, excluded in the new directives issued on Saturday

The Lagos state government on Saturday, January 16, extended the resumption date for civil servants from grade level 14 below who have been working from home amid scare of COVID-19 second wave.

In a statement by the head of service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the public workers have been directed to resume on Monday, February 1, instead of on January 18.

Lagos said this will help in flattening the curve and reduce the spread of deadly and highly contagious coronavirus.

The directive, however, excluded staff on essential duty as well as workers categorised under first responders.

According to the Logos government, the weekly duty rosters should be maintained for effective service delivery by ministries, departments and agencies of the state government.

Earlier, the Lagos state government re-affirmed its earlier directive that all schools in the state, both public and private (below tertiary level), should resume on Monday, January 18, for the second term 2020/2021 academic session.

Kayode Abayomi, the head of public affairs in the state's Ministry of Education, said in a statement sighted by Legit.ng that the affirmation was made on Friday, January 15, by the commissioner for education, Folasade Adefisayo.

The commissioner noted that state government's decision is in line with the federal government’s resolution after reaching a consensus with relevant stakeholders.

In a related development, Edo made a U-turn on the full reopening of schools, with the state government announcing that schools will no longer reopen on Monday, January 18, for the second term of 2020/2021 academic session.

The new development was announced on Friday, January 15, by Governor Godwin Obaseki in a tweet on his official Twitter handle.

According to the governor, the subsisting curfew imposed on the state by the government has been reviewed to 10pm - 5am daily to avoid the spread of the deadly virus.
