Tears as Nigeria police loses second AIG in 3 days

- The Nigeria Police Force has lost another top official to the cold hands of death

The Nigeria Police Force has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Yunana Babas, an assistant inspector general of police in charge of Zone 8, The Nation reports.

Though details surrounding the cause of his death have not been made public, Legit.ng notes that the senior police officer's death is coming three days after the death of another AIG, Omololu Bishi.

In a report by Premium Times, Bishi, a newly-promoted AIG died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Ikeja on Monday, January 11.

The deceased who passed away while on admission was taken to LASUTH after he took ill.

The governor of Kwara state, AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman in reaction to Babas' death commiserated with the police authorities, describing the late officer as a perfect gentleman and dedicated officer.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Muhammad Tambari Yabo, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), passed on.

He died at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto state, on Saturday, January 9, after a brief illness.

The retired senior police officer died at a time more deaths are being recorded from the coronavirus pandemic.

Similarly, Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe, former vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos was also declared dead.

Professor Ibidapo-Obe was, until his death, the pro-chancellor and chairman of the Council of First Technical University, Ibadan.

His death was confirmed in a statement on Sunday, January 3, by the registrar and secretary to the council of the university, Olayinka Balogun.

In another development, the NPF on Wednesday, January 13, announced the posting and redeployment of some officers to nine commands and other formations in a move geared towards effective reforms in the country.

The announcement was made in a statement by the deputy public relations officer, Aremu Sikiru Adeniran, available on the force's social media pages.

Aremu said the posting is with immediate effect, adding that all the deployed officers must report to their new commands.
